Mandalas

The word comes from Sanskrit, and it means circle. A mandala is a circular design that represents the universe in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, usually built from concentric rings that hold three things at once: meditation and the inner peace it brings, outward beauty, and the quiet mathematical perfection of geometry.

I am mesmerized by them, by how much simplicity and elegance can live in a single form. I design my own, working out the mathematical patterns in code before I build them by hand. Lately I have started to experiment further, laying in acrylic, charcoal, and pencil alongside the nails and thread. New pieces are coming, and I will be showing them here over the next few weeks.
